Social Impact of Technology SO245
Assignment 05,
Arguments for and against birth control

For:
1) The rate of population growing in this earth is going on a rapid speed. The earth is a home of seven billion people. The overpopulated countries like China and India together account for 36.41% of total world population. The people of these countries feel that they are losing their daily life necessary things, resources and basic needs. Birth control helps to decrease the population growth rate and prevent the high infant death rate in a country. The main reason of growing population is poverty, lack of education and knowledge and environmental disturbance. In an undeveloped countries like Africa, the number of people to use the methods or devices used to prevent pregnancy is very low. To control the high birth rate proper education and knowledge and awareness programs is necessary to the local people.
2) According to Professor Bonnie Steinbock, "It is only reasonable to accept that birth control is not merely a matter of morals, but also of ethics." It may not be moral to stop a concept or idea of birth control but it is not ethical or bad to make unwanted pregnancies happily. These types of unwanted or unnecessary pregnancies leads to a poverty and malnutrition. Deforestation, loss of ecosystems, loss of arable land and natural resources are the results of population growth.
3) The government should legalize and develop the methods of contraceptives to decrease the birth rate in a country. It helps to the women to control in pregnancies until when they are not ready for it. Contraceptive method increase in population control and reduces in illegal abortions. It would be more better if contraceptive devices or products like condoms, pills and other methods should be free to every citizens of a country. Control in population growth can lead a happy life as well as the prosperity of a citizen and country.
Against:
 1) In some of the Muslim countries, it is said that children are the gift of a god and they cannot refuse the gift of a god. For them it is against god's law. That’s why they do not prevent pregnancies. Religious and moral belief is very disturbing to many people. Even in a bible there is written, "God is Sovereign in birth. He opens and shuts the womb; He blesses with children." It really creates a problem in a society. Some religious followers give birth to their baby in the name of god. They think that using contraceptive method is opposite of nature which can take them in hell after their deathMaybe they will go to hell after their death but I am sure that their life will be as hell when they are alive.
2) One of the most important reason behind against birth control is lack of people to work in a rich countries. It focus mainly to young people. They have the power to change the economic and political condition of a country. That’s why rich countries force to the underdeveloped countries to increase their population and rent them in their country to work. Rich countries pay them less than they pay their citizens. By engaged them in hard works in less payment these countries can raise their economic rapidly. In another word, it is like a human trafficking. Nowadays, this is happening mostly in Arab countries where they have workers from South Asian countries. Women are forced to give birth a baby to send them to work in Arab countries when they grow up. It was also occurred in ChinaIt is also a main cause of population growth.
